To quote the old Newman home page (i.e. the version from when I was a student there), "Isidore Newman School, located in Uptown New Orleans at 1903 Jefferson Ave., is an [sic] historic institution, offering Pre-Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade education." Aside from the poor grammar, that description is an understatement. Newman is by far the best school in New Orleans and arguably the whole state of Louisiana. While I had and still have plenty of qualms with the administration, I cherish my four years of high school there, the friends I made, the experiences I had, the opportunities I received, and the secondary education I acquired. Despite the abuse I dealt with because of where I live (a farm on the wrong side of the river), I still would not have spent those important years anywhere else. Period.
I graduated in 2002 with a class of 123 unique individuals, and we have since parted paths, moving on to college and whatnot. No matter how much each and every one of us complained at one point or another (I did more than my fair share of griping), we each cherish our time and memories from Newman. From the 13-year Greenies to the high school transfers, we were a great group of people. As the largest class ever to graduate from Newman at that point in history, the school still misses us (or at least missed us when I initially wrote this in April 2003). Therefore, this section goes out to those awesome four years in Uptown. Enjoy.
